College Pre-Engineering Students Gain Experience at Panasonic Avionics

91传媒 | May 22, 2025

On May 20, 91传媒 students majoring in pre-engineering and electronics took part in a two-hour tour of Panasonic Avionics Corporation in Irvine. The hands-on experience gave students a firsthand look at careers in engineering, computer programming, electronics, mathematics, and drafting 鈥 core areas of 91传媒鈥檚 STEM programs.

Students rotated through several labs, gaining real-world insights into the engineering and design of in-flight entertainment systems. Tour stops included:

  • Advanced Product Development Lab, where students learned how new products move from concept to creation.
  • EMV/EMI Lab, offering a look at electromagnetic testing and product reliability.
  • PCB area, where PCB Designer Armando Saldana showed circuit board design and component placement.
  • Software Lab, demonstrating in-flight connectivity systems and display testing for commercial aircraft.

鈥淏eing able to see the technology in the PCB design room and how they test products to meet consumer demands was really eye-opening,鈥 one student said. Another added, 鈥淚 really enjoyed being able to visit a large engineering company, especially one that dealt with electronics.鈥

The tour was made possible by Armando Saldana, a 91传媒 alumnus and PCB designer at Panasonic Avionics. Saldana will return to 91传媒 in fall 2025 as an adjunct professor of electronics, teaching ELE-28/828: Multisim CAD and PCB Design/Fab Administration. The course introduces students to schematic capture, simulation, printed circuit board layout, and fabrication 鈥 further connecting classroom learning with industry experience.

鈥淲e are thrilled to offer our students opportunities like this that connect classroom learning with real-world careers,鈥 said Paula Barrera, 91传媒 job developer. 鈥淎rmando鈥檚 involvement and mentorship are invaluable to our students鈥 professional growth and future success in STEM fields.鈥

Panasonic Avionics Corporation is a global leader in in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems for commercial aircraft. The company鈥檚 commitment to innovation and technical excellence made the visit an ideal experience for aspiring STEM professionals.
